Company Diagram

The Eden Project in Cornwall opened its doors to their new education and resource facility on the 19th September 2005.

The PowerGlaz panels were installed by Solarcentury as part of their PV installation on the roof of the building. The complete installation provides sufficient power generation for 20,000kWh per annum whilst reducing annual CO2 emissions by 9 tonnes.

Operations and Technology

PowerGlaz - Renewable Energy for Architectural Glass Facades.
Our purpose built 30 MWp photovoltaic (PV) glass laminating facility produces glass for all building types that will convert light into electricity thereby reducing power costs and CO2 emissions.

The key benefits of PowerGlaz are:

  • It replaces conventional glazing materials whilst simultaneously harnessing energy from daylight.
  • It is very easy to install. The glass is fitted into conventional glazing systems usually without the need for modification of the system.  Electrical connections are made simple and the glazing subcontrator can normally handle inter-connection of the modules (Connecting the power to the buildings electricity supply or to the grid should be undertaken by an accredited PV installer).
  • The initial cost of the solar installation is offset during construction and the electricity produced by PowerGlaz continues to lower electricity costs during the lifetime of the building.
  • The density of the PV cells can be specified for each individual installation thereby optimising the amount of natural light (or shade) within the building interior.
  • It provides solar shading and looks good. Architects and designers can choose the layout of the PV cells to cover the entire panel or only partial cover. Flexibility is key to a wide choice of designs. Large panels are possible - 2200mm x 3600mm or more.

Transport: Specialist Transport
Security glass designed specifically for the transport market, and ‘high impact’ glass for the rail industry are an important element of the company’s product range and developing demanding products for this sector, has assisted us in offering high performance products within the architectural and security sectors.

Our passion for quality combined with our commitment to understanding and responding to customers’ specific requirements has led to an extensive range of products for the transport sector.

Romag’s range of security glass is extensive and includes conventional ‘all glass’ laminates or lighter high performance glass/polycarbonate variants. These products are available in curved as well as flat panels and may also include specialist inter-layers including our California Series solar control glass to reduce heat build up and increase comfort inside the vehicle.

Transport applications include:-
Cash in Transit
Public Sector
Trains
Marine
Military
VIP Limousines

Security

Romags reputation for manufacturing high quality bullet resistant and intruder resistant glass cannot be surpassed and we have enjoyed UK market leader status in this sector for several years now.

Our comprehensive range of products meets worldwide standards and our security glass plays an effective role in providing discreet protection to potential high profile targets throughout the world.

With our in house testing facilities which include a high velocity cannon for firing projectiles to test the impact resistance of glass, and a ballistic firing range, we are able to develop glass to satisfy clients specific requirements for protection against attack.

Romag's glass meets many worldwide standards and these include:-
Physical Attack
Bullet Resistant Glass
Blast Resistance

Architectural: Applications for Architecture
To keep pace with the ever changing world of architecture Romag recognise that our products not only have to be functional but also have to be flexible to provide the form that will enable the individual designers creativity to show through.

Increasingly, glass for buildings needs to perform several functions not only providing a means to see outside and allow light into the building, but often several other functions as well. In most situations glass has to provide insulation to keep heat in, but the increasing use of glass in structures demands that glass will also keep excessive heat from the sun out of the building, particularly now that our summers are getting warmer. Additionally, glass may be used as a structural component, as well as providing protection against terrorists or intruders. Glass is therefore, by necessity a multi-functional component in building design.

Romag meet these demands by offering three core processes namely laminating, toughening, and bending which, when combined with the most appropriate raw glass product, ensures that we can offer the most beneficial finished product which performs all the demands expected from it. As an independent company, Romag will search the market for the most appropriate raw products to combine into their finished product without being tied to ‘in group’ product sourcing.

The result is the ideal product which meets our customer’s requirements in both form and function.

APPLICATIONS
Our ability to meet the demands of modern architectural trends means that our glass has been used for many applications, which include:-

Atria Glazing
Curtain walling
Glass Floors and Stairways
Skylights
