Ceres Power is a high growth product development company founded in 2001 to commercially exploit revolutionary fuel cell technology originally developed within Imperial College during the preceding 10 years. The company combines significant industrial experience involving the commercialisation of high technology with world class research and development expertise.
Located in a customised facility near Gatwick airport, Ceres benefits from having integrated product development, testing and pilot production capabilities all on one site.
Ceres Power's strength goes well beyond its technology heritage. We have combined highly talented development teams with solid business know-how and clear commercial focus. Our aim is to build a successful high growth business, offering world-beating power generation solutions tailored to the needs of the customer.
The Ceres team includes people from top class universities and careers in industry from a range of sectors including: engineering, power generation, oil and gas, automotive, and materials.
The company's underlying core technology was developed and incubated within Imperial College by a renowned founding group of fuel cell and materials experts including: Nigel Brandon, John Kilner, Alan Atkinson, Bob Rudkin and the late Brian Steele. Ceres continues to enjoy a strong relationship with Imperial with on-going technical support and innovation.
Fuel Cells
Fuel cells offer a better way of producing electricity and heat than traditional power generating products. Fuel cells are highly efficient, quiet and produce low emissions - making it possible for everyone to move to a more secure and sustainable energy world. Up until now the choice of fuel cells has been hampered by compromises. You have had to choose between complex, delicate systems that operate at extremely high temperatures or vulnerable low temperature systems that can only run on pure hydrogen.
Now there is a viable alternative.
Introducing a revolution in power generation
Ceres Power is proud to introduce a revolutionary fuel cell - the world's first commercial metal-supported solid oxide fuel cell operating at an intermediate temperature. It starts producing energy extremely quickly and is designed to work with a range of fuels, including LPG, natural gas, methanol, hydrogen and vehicle fuels. This combination of traits makes it ideally suited for mass market uses.
A fuel cell that offers durability, efficiency and fast response, and all at a lower cost.
Ceres is a product development company specialising in small scale distributed power generation using intermediate temperature solid oxide fuel cells. A single fuel cell is the basic building block of a fuel cell power generator; Ceres is developing low cost and robust fuel cells that will be combined into stacks capable of generating between 1kWe and 25kWe.
