Nevada Geothermal Power Inc. ("NGP") is an alternative renewable geothermal energy company actively exploring and developing several geothermal power plant projects and owns a 100% leashold interest in four properties: Blue Mountain, Pumpernickel, Black Warrior in Nevada and Crump Geyser, Oregon.
NGP's Blue Mountain geothermal site has a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for up to 35 MW of Geothermal Power with Nevada Power Company
"The signing of this PPA for an initial geothermal power plant at our Blue Mountain project is a significant step for Nevada Geothermal...We expect there will be additional MW capacity at Blue Mountain for future development and we are also exploring growth potential of our three other geothermal sites in Nevada and Oregon." ...Brian Fairbank, P. Eng, President and CEO of Nevada Geothermal Power Inc.
NGP is well funded and has no debt
Generation of electricity from geothermal reservoirs is economically viable
Currently the state of Nevada has 14 geothermal power plants totaling 297 megawatts of power capacity
Electricity production from renewable sources is expected to triple in the coming decade
Federal Renewable Energy Production Tax Credit (US1.9 cents per kWh) has been expanded to geothermal.
Nevada Geothermal Power's flagship project is the 100% owned Blue Mountain property, in northern Nevada. Development driling is underway at the Blue Mountain geothermal site, the production test data from the wells will be used to complete a feasibility study in the fall of 2007, for an initial 30 MW to 35 MW geothermal power plant; which is enough to supply power to 24,000 homes.
Overview
Nevada Geothermal Power Inc. ("NGP") is developing geothermal energy projects in the Western United States to meet existing demand for power.
Nevada Geothermal Power Inc. (TSX.V:NGP,OTCBB:NGLPF) holds a 100% interest in 15.0 square miles/39 square-kilometres of geothermal leases just west of Winnemucca in north central Nevada. The promising Blue Mountain geothermal field has advantages over many other geothermal projects; the geothermal resources is close to the surface (shallow) easy road access and is situated within 15miles/24 km of the electrical transmission grid.
Blue Mountain was first discovered in the 1980s while searching for gold, recognizing that the potential for generating electrical power out-weighed the property's bullion prospects, company President Brian Fairbank moved to tie up the ground. With over 30 years of geothermal power industry expertise he had no problem attracting an international team of industry experts including geothermal pioneer, Domenic Falcone, solidifying NGP's impressive management team.
Nevada Geothermal is gathering steam with its flagship project Blue Mountain's "Faulkner I" power plant; NGP has a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement with Nevada Power Company (Utility) to deliver up to 35 MW (gross) 31.25 MW (net) of geothermal Power, enough energy to supply ~24,000 homes. Development drilling has been completed and production testing is underway to complete a feasibility study for fall, 2007. Bridge financing of US$20.0 million has been arranged as well as construction and project financing for US $100 million. Subject to a favourable feasibility study, Phase 1 at Blue Mountain is expected to commence power generation in 2009.
Blue Mountain
Nevada Geothermal Power Inc. owns a 100% interest in the Blue Mountain geothermal project located in Humboldt County, Northern Nevada. The property covers 9637 acres, located 15 miles from the state electrical transmission grid.
NGP recently signed announced a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement for up to 35 MW of geothermal power at Blue Mountain with Nevada Power Company. The geothermal power plant is projected to generate power at the Blue Mountain site in 2009 subject to further resource drilling. Development drilling is currently underway; production test data from the wells will be used to complete a feasibility study.
The initial program, four 13-inch diameter production wells will be drilled to 4000 feet (1200 metres) into the moderate temperature 148-165°C (300-330°F) geothermal resource intersected in previous test holes. Permits have been obtained and drill pads are under construction. A water well rig will be used to drill the top 800 feet of each well and to set surface casing. A production drilling rig with a substructure to accommodate blow-out-prevention-equipment will then complete the holes to total depth.
At least one well will be extended to 6500 feet (2000 metres) to explore for a much hotter, 450°F (230°C) geothermal reservoir at depth. A super heated resource is predicted from the chemistry of shallow geothermal fluid samples obtained from flow tests at DB-2. The high temperature resource, if confirmed, would have higher potential power output (i.e. >100 MW).
The Blue Mountain Geothermal Field is exceptional:
High geothermal water temperatures 160°C/300°F+
Top of resource at shallow depths (1,500 feet)
Drilling has outlined a 5 to 8 square kilometres (2 to 3 square miles) thermal anomaly open to expansion in all directions
Rapid increase in shallow rock temperatures, 100°F every 500 feet in depth
Large land position (15 square miles), 100% control
Flat terrain making for easy development of the site
Close proximity to the interstate power grid and local infrastructure reduces connection charges
NGP has surface occupancy and water rights allow for water-cooling which is more efficient; lowering operating costs
International Management Team has a proven track record in finance and geothermal development
To date NGP/Blue project has received US$1.2 million in grants for cost share drilling and testing program from the U.S. Department of Energy
Blue Mountain is a development project not exploration-an extensive amount of work has been completed on the property.
Pumpernickel Valley, Nevada
Nevada Geothermal Power Inc. through its wholly-owned subsidiary Nevada Geothermal Power Company has a 100% leasehold interest in 6720 acres/10.5 square miles of geothermal lands in Pumpernickel Valley, Nevada. Sierra Geothermal Power Corp., a TSX Venture listed comapy has an option to earn a 50-per-cent joint venture interest in the Pumpernicekle goetheral land under lease to NGP. Under this option, Sierra Geothermal is required to make certain cash payments and to issue common shares to NGP as well as to undertake C$5-million in project expenditures over a 5 year period.
Black Warrior Peak, Washoe County, Nevada
In October 2004, the Company acquired seven square miles of private land and applied for a one-section federal geothermal lease for a total land area of eight square miles south and east of Black Warrior Peak, Washoe County, Nevada. The leases are on private land and are subject to a 3.5% royalty on gross revenue from electricity sales; however, NGP can purchase the royalty for US$1,000,000. Leases include surface and water rights.
The Crump Geyser
The Crump Geyser area is located in Warner Valley, Lake County, near the hamlet of Adel, which is 53 km east of Lakeview, Oregon, on Highway 140, and 287 km northwest from Winnemucca, Nevada. The Crump Geyser area is located within the moderate to high thermal activity zone, which extends from Washington State and covers much of central and eastern Oregon. The Renewable Northwest Project considers the Basin and Range country of southeastern Oregon one of the most promising geothermal areas in the Pacific Northwest (www.rnp.org).
