Wafers

Renesola currently produces roughly 7 million solar wafers a month. These wafers are delivered to a number of leading cell manufacturers, both within China and abroad.

Operations and Technology

PRODUCTS
FEEDSTOCK
ReneSola is able to secure raw material supplies through its wafer recycling division and through close ties with domestic polysilicon producers.

ReneSola currently processes 80 tons of scrap wafer and polysilicon per month. Output will grow to around 100 tons per month during the second half of 2006. ReneSola has strong ties to a number of international and domestic companies and has formed long-term partnerships in scrap wafer and polysilicon recycling.

January 2008, Linzhou Zhongsheng Semiconductor Silicon Material Co., Ltd., a new polysilicon manufacturing joint venture of ReneSola located in Henan Province, China. The Company is pleased to announce that the joint venture has now commenced trial production of polysilicon. The estimated output of the joint venture is 200 tonnes in 2008.

MONOCRYSTAL

ReneSola's high quality wafers are sold to a wide range of customers both in China and abroad.

ReneSola currently produces roughly 7 million solar wafers a month. These wafers are delivered to a number of leading cell manufacturers, both within China and abroad.

ReneSola's new wafer plant will have 62 units of wafer slicers in place on September 2007. The new machines use the very latest technology and should allow us to increase the number of wafers produced per ingot by around 10%. It will mean we can save on wafer cutting expenses and also allow us to increase speed and certainty of delivery to our customers.

Moving from our core competency in monocrystalline ingot production, we will soon be adding the flexibility of multicrystalline produation.

ReneSola currently has 226 monocrystalline furnaces in operation capable of producing around 100 ton of ingot per month.

MULTICRYSTAL

As part of the company’s expansion plan, ReneSola began the production of multicrystalline products in the third quarter of 2007. ReneSola currently has 32 multicrystalline furnaces, which can reach annual production capacity of approximately 160 MW and produce approximately 400 kg of ingots. With the production of multicrystalline products, additional the cost synergies are expected to be realized by utilizing some of the silicon materials reclaimable from the monocrystalline wafer production process.

ReneSola currently offers 156 mm by 156 mm multicrystalline wafers with a thickness of 220 microns. Compared with monocrystalline wafers, multicrystalline wafers are less expensive to produce and have less stringent raw materials requirements, though monocrystalline wafers generally yield high conversion efficiency ingots.

TECHNOLOGIES

WAFER TECHNOLOGY
Recycling:
Through proprietary techniques, we are able to transform waste wafers from the semi-conductor industry and scrap polysilicon into feedstock for solar PV production.
ReneSola's commitment to non fossil fuels-based electricity generation has led the way in recycling for the solar industry.

Due to our rigorous recycling efforts, what had previously been unusable waste material from semi conductors is now a valuable commodity. We invest heavily in new ways to recycle a wide variety of scrap wafers.

CRYSTAL GROWTH TECHNOLOGY

We maximize the output of our furnaces by using leading computer control systems and highly skilled staff.

Ingot Technology

  • ReneSola works tirelessly to improve the yield from its monocrystalline ingot furnaces. With a team of experienced engineers on hand 24 hours a day, we work to run our furnaces at their maximum capacity of over 500 kg/furnace per month.
  • We will soon begin upgrading our monocrystalline furnaces to raise the production capacity to 600 kg/furnace per month.
  • In 2007, ReneSola added multicrystalline furnaces. This allows us to reduce production costs and use more of our scrap wafers and polysilicon. It also gives us access to future solar-grade polysilicon supplies.

WAFER THICKNESS
We have steadily increased the number of wafers per centimeter of ingot through a combination of reduced thickness and lower kerf loss.
  • Since we started operations, the thickness of our wafers has been steadily reduced from 280μm to 200μm, significantly increasing wafer yield per ingot by around 10%.
  • ReneSola's wafer cutting plant began operations in May 2006 with the latest machinery from Japan.

MULTICRYSTALLINE SILICON TECHNOLOGY
ReneSola's fabrication of multicrystalline silicon uses a directional solidification system. Multicrystalline ingots can now be produced faster and at lower cost than ever before. ReneSola produces material for high efficiency cells.

RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT

ReneSola has worked tirelessly to find a way to use scrap wafers and polysilicon without compromising efficiency. Our R&D department has developed proprietary techniques and processes that make us the leading player in wafer recycling. Our R&D team focuses its energies in the following areas:
  • Developing proprietary techniques for recycling different types of scrap wafers and polysilicon. Our team is steadily increasing the range of goods that it is able to process.
  • Maximizing processing yields. By constantly adjusting our cleaning processes and testing procedures we have steadily increased the amount of useable feedstock from each ton of wafers processed.
  • Optimizing feedstock mixes to maximize production yield and unit cost, while maintaining wafer efficiency.
